Ellis Faas. One of the many names in makeup that I have heard from the onset of my makeup career. A dutch makeup artist who divides her time between Paris, New York and Milan whose work has been featured in magazines, advertising and on the runway.
She started off her career as a photographer and used herself as a model. In order to achieve different looks in her photos she learnt the art of makeup and this is the Ellis Faas we know today. After studying her craft in Paris, she relocated to London in this is where she found her creative work.
Famed photographer, Mario Testino collaborated with her in the Netherlands and thus began the fruitful career of Faas. After working with Testino many other photogarphers followed suit, namely Miles Aldridge, Terry Richardson, Patrick Demarchelier, Michelangelo Di Battista and Tom Munro amongst others.
Vogue Paris has called her “one of the most influential make-up artists of her generation”.
Faas has been a leading makeup artist on the runway and has designed looks for: Junya Watanabe, Emanuel Ungaro,Giorgio Armani, Moschino ,Yves Saint-Laurent Haute Couture, Kenzo Takada, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana,Cacharel, Dries van Noten, Fendi, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Viktor & Rolf for H&M. In 2009 she launched her own brand of cosmetics.
